Advocacy work

Presented and submitted applications to CMS requesting the following 3 new and unique procedure codes to track mechanical thrombectomy procedures: stent retriever only , stent retriever and aspiration and aspiration only, as well as new diagnosis codes to track aneurysm size (small, large or giant) and type (saccular vs. non-saccular).

The addition of these codes will allow hospitals to track and understand the true cost of the various types of mechanical thrombectomy procedures and varying aneurysm sizes.  Additional coding specificity will enhance the ability to track outcomes and ultimately aid in patient care.  The increased specificity will also allow academic institutions to easily query hospital electronic medical records for research purposes.

Submitted a formal request to CMS to appeal and successfully reverse an inadvertent mechanical thrombectomy non-coverage error from ICD-9 to ICD-10 resulting in a significant number of hospital payment denials being reversed.

Avid proponent of private payer policy reversal efforts through proactive dissemination of current Level 1 evidence resulting in policy reversals in favor of mechanical thrombectomy coverage.

Provide access to a Wingspan Stent System Reimbursement Hotline to support our customers with billing assistance, insurance verification, facilitate prior authorization requests, and for denial appeals.
